Chapter 3 - Becka - Spark Interest & Appreciation Speech

“Good Night Gorgeous,” said a tall handsome black man. My heart jumped. “Good Night,” I said with a smile on my face but not big enough for him to see that I was satisfied with him literally. “So why aren’t you on the dance floor with the other ladies?” he said calmly. “Well, I’m just chilling here at the bar for a while.” “Okay, are you here with someone?” He asked looking around. “No, just me. Chilling. By the Bar.” I replied sarcastically. “I’m sorry to intrude on your chilling time. My name is Rick Patterson. May I sit?” “Knock yourself out, I don’t own the bar.” I said laughing. “I see you got jokes. So, what your name pretty lady?” he asked watching me in my face and not somewhere else on my body. “I’m Rebecka Johnson.” After handing distributing awards, the crowd started yielding “SPEECH! SPEECH! SPEECH!” Were they serious? I didn’t come prepared to give a speech but I still went at it. “I didn’t come prepared to give a speech but I’ll give you guys one because you’re my hearts. I first started this business between the walls of my parents’ home with my personal laptop, printer and cellular phone before moving into my own home. I was eighteen with little to no experience on running a business. A mortgage. All I had were my sisters, my education and the drive and ambition to make 8 something of my life and the lives of my sisters after the passing of our parents. It wasn’t easy, I can tell you that. Many times, I wanted to give in. Throw in the towel but a weak mind never conquers anything. One thing that kept me going was a saying my sisters and I vowed to live by. “Even though things will get rough, we will grow to be all we can be.” My sister Taylor brought this saying to us. I can remember that day as it was yesterday. Chances are all we have in life and I would like to thank all my employees who have been on this journey with me. Your success is my success. Your happiness is my happiness. We’ve grown to be a family and not just a design firm. I’ll never watch any of you guys go through something tough and walk away. Janice, Taylor, I love you guys, I can’t ask for better sisters. I live for ya’ll. Constance, Jonathan, Ruth, Jeremy, Bruce, God sent you guys to me to show me what teamwork means, he sent you guys to show me that it’s okay to trust, have faith and dream bigger than myself. You guys thought me so much. I love you all. Mom, Dad, you’re not here but I know you’re here in our hearts and watching over us. Without you and all you’ve thought us and our god above, I don’t know where we would be. We forever will love you both. Thank you all for coming. We all will have Wishes, Desires and Fantasies in life. Once your heart pounds for it go and grab it. Thank you. Good night.”
